The Bracelet Culture

As loyal as a…? You wanted to say book right? Or you wanted to say dog? Nah! Not today bookworms and dog lovers.

I believe across the globe there is no person as loyal as Kenyans to their Kenyan flag bracelet, come fight me. So, as loyal as a Kenyan to their Kenyan bracelet. Yes I said it!

I know some people will be like ugh! I am Kenyan and I don’t own one, well this post is not for you, just kidding. But tell me why most Kenyans wear a Kenyan flag bracelet. It is as if it is mandatory for every citizen especially those living abroad.

Talk about nostalgia and home sickness. Kenyans in the diaspora have often times admitted to feeling closer to home when wearing the Kenyan flag bracelet. So it really does cure homesickness (smiles devilishly at my passport — time to globetrot). I get it why it usually is a must-have, for any person wanting to travel outside the country.

For people who wonder what this is, well let me break it down for you. It’s a bracelet made out of tiny beads which have different colors of the Kenyan flag. (See figure below)

These beads are arranged in the order they appear in the flag which makes it attractive. Someone said at this point, with its popularity, the government of Kenya needs to include it as a symbol of national identity or citizenship.

The Kenyan Flag

I mean even our presidents have been wearing it. It has become such a tradition to the extent of being souvenirs for any person visiting the country. Like some sort of evidence that you were in Kenya (Tell me you’ve been to Kenya without telling me you’ve been to Kenya).

The best part is, it matches with any outfit and its available in all wrist sizes, even babies can wear the bracelet too😊!.

I don’t know about you guys, but I find the Kenyan bracelet really cute.😊
